to confidently use proven methods of management leadership
to lead people and help them plan, organize
and control their work assignments. Workshop
participants will also learn to use resources made available to them more
effectively.

Workshop Objectives:
At
the 90-day post-workshop assessment, participants will
have:
- Demonstrated
(on the job) an understanding that the intuitive style
of leadership (self-centered, directive) will only
work in special circumstances and will have made noticeable
improvement in working themselves toward a management
leadership style (participatory, empowering)
- Spent
more time "leading and managing" and less
time "doing"
- Used
the action planning process to plan and implement
at least one important initiative that has a positive
impact on business results
- Used
the decision-making technique on the job to arrive
at sound decisions that have or will have a positive
impact on business results
- Demonstrated
greater ability to function in teamwork situations
- Developed
and successfully used a system of control by exception

Leadership Training Workshops: Five Keys to Effective Leadership
The subject of leadership is always a hot topic in business settings. From competency charts to high potential leadership training programs, organizations spend a significant amount of time and money studying and investing in leadership.
While a study of leadership can drive us into mind-boggling lists, categories and sub-categories of leadership traits and attributes, most can be boiled down into five simple categories.
Though easy to understand, these qualities can often be difficult in practice. Every leader, from a large company CEO to a manager with a team of two should make a regular habit of studying these five keys to leadership.
1. Honesty
Without the trust of those they lead, no leader can be successful. Honesty is perhaps the first thing every leader should focus on. An effective leader should not simply appear honest. They must be open and unafraid to take risks.
Everyone makes mistakes. In a position of leadership when risk-taking is inherent, failures will inevitably happen. In these situations, the best thing a leader can do is lead by example. When mistakes are made, there should be no attempt to mask or disguise them. Instead, openly investigate what went wrong and be willing to learn from the situation.
Used as a learning opportunity, these situations give us the ability to chart a new course, set a new goal and move forward with renewed vigor, inspiring those we lead. Honesty will not only instill trust, it will create an atmosphere free from the paralyzing fear of failure, promoting progress and productivity.
2. Dedication
An organization will only be as dedicated as their leadership. Hard work and perseverance are paramount to success as a leader. As goes your dedication to the work, so goes the dedication of your staff.
Dedication does not extend only to the work at hand. It continues to those you lead. Dedication to employees has a direct correlation to a leader's ability to lead. Investing in their development and wellbeing will go a long way in proving your dedication as a leader.
3. Foresight
Foresight does not mean being able to predict the future. Foresight is a leader's ability to set a vision and direction for the future. This vision is what will unify a team, allowing it to charge forward toward a common goal.
A lack of foresight will not only bring about disunity, but a lack of faith in a leader's abilities. However, this does not mean forcing a vision upon those you lead. In fact, involving your team in the visioning process will give them ownership and a higher motivation to achieve the goals at hand.
4. Communication
A leader can have a fantastic vision, but success will rest on the ability to communicate it. Communicating requires two important ingredients: clarity and inspiration. Clarity, in the form of a direct and open style of communication will assure a common understanding. Inspiration will then catalyze that message into action.
In addition, an effective leader will always remember that communication is a two-way business. Just as your message should clearly be communicated to those you lead, your team should have the opportunity to do the same in return. After all, a one-way conversation is no conversation at all and stagnant communication will put a halt to progress.
5. Emotional Intelligence
Finally, emotional intelligence (EQ) should be a subject of study for leaders at all levels. EQ is our ability to self assesses and our social awareness, combined with our ability to manage ourselves and our relationships with others in a productive way.
Numerous studies have shown that the most effective leaders are those with a high EQ. It's not surprising, considering that a leader's success hinges on their ability to manage different personalities and relationships in the context and full awareness of their own social style.
The most positive thing for any leader to know is that EQ can be a learned trait and can be improved and developed. A continual effort to improve EQ is an important key to leadership success.
