  • Spent more time "leading and managing" and less time "doing"
  • Used the action planning process to plan and implement at least one important initiative that has a positive impact on business results
  • Used the decision-making technique on the job to arrive at sound decisions that have or will have a positive impact on business results
  • Demonstrated greater ability to function in teamwork situations

Effective Leadership Development Workshop: What You Can Do to Improve Your Leadership Skills

Every leader constantly endeavors to improve their act. Stagnancy is contrary to leadership anyway. When we think about people with the most amazing and inspiring leadership skills, the people that come to our mind are dynamic people-people who can take immediate decisions, people who can change their manner of working if needed, in short, people who do not put much stock into the formulaic approach.

If you are looking at enhancing your leadership skills as well, you may want to look at how some other effective leaders around the world have handled their teams. Perhaps a little introspection is in order. These are some questions that you may want to ask of yourself.

What feelings are governing you at the moment?

It is highly vital that you feel joy in what you do. You don't want to let negative thoughts such as despair, hard feelings, anger, grief, boredom or stress bog you down. If you aren't feeling the joy in your work, then something somewhere is snapping. Think about it. Think about solutions before it is too late.

What are you doing to create that joy?

Leadership skill mentors may tell you that you have to make the effort to create the joy. Things aren't going to work out by themselves. It is only when you bridge the gaps and implement solutions will things begin to fall into place. It is true when we say that we are only as cheerful as we want ourselves to be.

How will people remember you?

Think about it... when you are done with your leadership tryst, how will people remember you? What difference have you made/are you making in their lives? What will your legacy be? Have you left your imprint on the organizational culture you are working in? These are some very important things you have to consider, things that cannot be undervalued under any circumstances. If you are working at a brilliant epitaph at the end of it all, then your life itself starts becoming more glorious by the minute.

Do you want to modify something in your life?

This is perhaps the most important factor that keeps us supercharged. Is there something that is niggling you, rankling you... something that you want to be replaced with something else? It could be something that you have, or something that you do, or something that is a trait of a team member. Perhaps if you make the alteration, things begin better. People will great leadership skills always make the attempt to ameliorate things that don't bode well for the team. Don't hesitate to usher in a renaissance of sorts if you need to do that.
