Leadership Workshop: A Leadership Workshop That Shows You How to Effectively Demonstrate Your Leadership Style

One cannot effectively demonstrate his/her leadership style until a style is developed. Personality, of course is the distinguishing factor in your natural leadership style, and if you have a timid natural personality your work is really cut out for you.

Some people seem to be natural born leaders, whether that's true or a product of environment, is a matter of debate. Doesn't really matter, as 95% of us are wanting in some area of leadership qualities.

The first step of developing an effective leadership style is to perform an honest self evaluation of yourself. This can be a tremendously difficult task which can defeat an inspiring leader before they begin, because if you can't be honest with yourself, the chances you'll listen to an evaluation of another is at best, questionable.

A possible alternative to a self evaluation is to make a list, use the internet to research leadership qualities if need be, of questions and have a person(s) you trust and can handle a bit of embarrassment with, to reply to the questions as they pertain to you.

By either method, you now have a realistic overview of your strengths and weaknesses. Don't discard your strengths as finished products and start immediately working on your weaknesses. Weaknesses, of course need improving, but some weaknesses are not correctable or improvable, therefore must be compensated for with an overpowering strength.

Construct a nonbiased list of your qualities broken into three categories, strengths, weaknesses, and I really don't know, not being surprised if the I don't know items outnumber the other two lists combined. Should all three lists be somewhat equal or two of the three, you have a good start, should one list far outnumber the others, you've either lied to yourself, or are very unsure of yourself.

Back up and review the list again, looking for obvious mistakes, created by embarrassment, mistake or uncontrolled conceit.

The " I don't know" category will include quite a few intangibles, such as Room Presence. Know, or have known a person, just by entering a room, exemplifies a presence of confidence and intelligence, this is room presence. This quality can be enhanced by an implacable appearance, however if everyone in the room is dressed in $2000 suits, the chance of you standing out is slanted towards the negative, not positive.

The "Weakness" category will include, shall we say, shallow personality characteristics, such as an obnoxiously loud or shrill voice or an undeserved arrogance of importance. In other words, you're a loud mouthed know it all. Hey, call it like it is. Ironically, these are easy fixes and actually preferable over unfixable characteristics such as having 7 fingers on your hands. A slight over statement, but you get what I mean.

You can easily fix the loud mouthed arrogance by learning to talk less and listening more. Most people who fall into this classification tend to talk before they think, again an easy remedy with a little work.

The "Strength" list may include characteristics such as an outgoing personally. You're the type of person who has never met a stranger, which is a strong attribute if utilized efficiently. You'd be surprised, even at the higher level of leadership, those who are fearful of speaking first.

You have successfully compiled a personal profile of yourself in which you have identified the pros and cons of your potential leadership abilities. A profile example may read as follows;

Possesses an uncanny ability to see through people to their real motivators, but doesn't allow the situation to develop in order to capitalize on this knowledge. Often tips hand by talking too much, however has a magnetic personally due to his/her ability to converse intelligently on nearly any subject.

How to use this analysis in the future to effectively demonstrate leadership qualities and style;

Allow the natural attraction of a pleasant and personable personality to flow, however, while engaging in conversation learn to talk in non-detail or to frivolous topics while acquiring and storing perceived motivators of the other person(s) for future reference in certain situations.

When that certain situation presents itself, you will take command of the circumstance because you are prepared where other are not.
