Self-Awareness And Acceptance In Leadership Development Seminars
A core aspect of leadership development skills is leading by example. Authentic leadership cannot and must not involve a "do as I say, not as I do" mentality. People follow leaders who have the courage and integrity to back up their talking with walking. It's this kind of approach that lends weight to the words of a leader. People respect those who have leadership experience on the playing field of life. They listen to those who have earned their share of scars and triumphs in living the example that they are encouraging others to follow.
In order to lead by example effectively, it is imperative that you have a firm grasp of who you are as a person and the values and passions that define you. Beyond understanding who you are as a person, a comprehensive leadership development program must equip you to make the sorts of leadership choices and live the kind of life that is true to the person you know yourself to be. If you have any hope of excelling in life and breaking free of the bonds of mediocrity, an honest assessment of your life will be required. What are the reasons that you do what you do? What or who motivates your actions? Are you dependent on anything or anyone else for your own contentment?
One of the killers of leadership excellence is imitation. This is one of the key areas where VDT differs from conventional Neuro Linguistic Programming. No copy has ever been more defined and effective than the original. Unavoidably, however close it may come, a copy will never live up to the standard of the original. This exposes an inherent flaw in molding your life based on the passions and talents of another. You can certainly learn from other people's leadership experiences, and benefit from studying their leadership methods, but if doing so is an end in itself you have set a ceiling for yourself that you will be unable to progress beyond. The person you are imitating is uniquely gifted to be the best of themselves that they can be. Try as you may, your efforts at imitating them will fail.
Learning from others must be looked at as a means to an end. The goal must be to equip yourself with leadership tools and leadership skills that enable you to be the best you that you can be. You have a purpose to fulfill on this earth that is unique to you. It is up to you to do that purpose justice because no one else is equipped to do it as effectively or as beautifully as you can. Embracing effective leadership development skills must involve the discovery of who you are with all your passions and talents, and uncovering ways of harnessing and utilizing them. In so doing, genuine contentment can be attained in life.
