Management Training Tips For Team Building

When management is thinking of holding a team building event, there are several tips you should familiarize yourself with in order for the event to be successful. Clearly, there are a several reasons why team building events are held. They usually revolve around ways of improving the business outcome, as well as the profitability. These events are meant to improve team efforts and total quality, resulting in improvement results for customers. Team building efforts are supposed to have goals and these goals need to be fulfilled. To accomplish this, there are several things you to be cognizant of.

First, once of the most important aspects are your expectations of the team building event. This is where the management makes it clear what the expected outcomes of the event should be. The things to confirm here are making the team understand why the team was created. What feedback will the support team receive from others (not only management personnel but from all other contacts and interaction). Another important pointer is to make sure that the team members are committed to the cause. Team members are shown the importance and significance of the company mission ... and must see themselves as valuable to the organization. Team members should also be shown how the company mission is also designed to help them develop their skills. Training is the ideal way to give the employees a platform to develop their skills.

It is ideal to make sure that team members are excited about the occasion. Another important thing to do is to define responsibilities clearly to the team members. Each employee should be given a distinct definition of his/her responsibility. This ensures that there is no confusion -- the employees will be able to relate well. Relationships in the office are also encouraged by allowing things like extended lunch periods for many employees to be able to enjoy and relax out of the traditional office environment. This builds understanding that will surely be transferred back to the office working environment and improve the working relationships.

Employees should also be empowered by giving them several decision making powers. This should be carefully done by observing the process and not leaving it entirely to them. Providing feedback to the employees is also a very important tip. This should be done as frequently as possible -- giving employees a clear picture of the organization's expectations. Another important tip is to provide rewards to the office as a group. This can be in different forms. such as luncheons or any other activity that top management sees fit. This encourages the employees and ensures a renewed enthusiasm for their jobs.

Setting reasonable deadlines is also another good tip to think of when planning team building. This can be done by dividing assignments equally and also providing compensation to the employees who work additional hours. Another good way of understanding your employees is by meeting them on a regular basis and letting them know that they are not alone. This keeps the communication lines open as well as allow you to gauge their productivity and needs -- another good way is to discourage any "backdoor" reports. This is where some employees attempt to report an issue to upper management after their meetings instead of to the group.
