Good Leadership Classes - The Most Important Qualities of a Leader

In today's world, it's important to possess positive leadership traits in order to be an effective and competent leader. As young people continue to vie for management and leadership positions it is imperative that they enter the workforce with the proper tools to help organizations succeed. Let's take a look at four must-have qualities for good leadership.

Innovation/Creativity in Leadership. When companies struggle with unoriginal ideas or the dreaded brain drain employees, leaders need to bring innovative and creative approaches to the table; whether its creating new business strategies, leadership development programs or finding ways to increase the bottom line every company can appreciate an innovative soul. A leader, who can think outside the box, and present the idea in a clear-cut manner is highly sought after and a definite jewel to the company. If an individual understands how to embrace innovation and come up with new and exciting approaches, they can truly take the company to a higher plateau.

Ethical Leadership. An honest and ethical leader is one for the keeping - one who doesn't cook the books, lie about statistics, or overstate or understate information. In order to keep companies in line, the leader has to be straightforward and make decisions in the best interest of the organization. Not his or her pocketbook or personal interest.

Assertive Leadership. Taking charge is highly important; no one wants a leader who is too lax and not willing to lead. A good leader is open, communicates effectively and doesn't badger or use intimidation to influence change. When you take the reins in a situation in a assertive and mature manner, it shows you're ready to face the issues with tact and dignity while listening to all parties.

Humor in Leadership. It is so important to break the monotony of those stiff board room meetings by inserting some humor (of course only when appropriate), in those sessions. By engaging with your fellow co-workers and staff on a comical level, it allows you to unite everyone on a basic, common ground. Also, a good leader should be able to laugh at his or her mistakes, and make everyone feel comfortable. If you're overly serious, it makes everyone on edge. Just remember to test the waters when being funny and refrain from embarrassing or offending someone.

These four main qualities are great to have in your professional arsenal as you grow as a leader; just remember these traits are highly sought after and they are important to keep in mind when developing your overall leadership potential.
