Leadership Skills Training: Why Investing in Developing Leadership Will Save on Recruitment Costs
From agency fees to advertising costs, and from referral bonuses to training costs, the recruitment process is one necessary part of the business cycle that can easily put a strain on the short term finances of a company.
But, whether a business is recruiting to replace or recruiting to grow, having a strategy in place that is effectively developing leadership internally will help to keep the cost of recruitment at a manageable level.
As one training expert explains: "There are many costs involved in recruitment not only the agency fee of 20 to 30 per cent of the new employee's base salary, which can take a significant proportion of the HR budget, but the costs incurred by a company's staff, who will be involved in the whole process."
And as the UK braces itself to finally emerge from the deepest recession in decades, many businesses are planning to hit the ground running by bringing in a wave of new employees. By investing in leadership coaching business leaders within organisations will be able to display far greater skills in terms of communication with new employees, and they will have a clear idea of how to get the best from their new staff. A leadership training course, designed to coax the best from business leaders, will help these top individuals to become better communicators with new recruits, preventing the training process from dragging on and become an ever-increasing financial burden.
Other benefits of leadership coaching include enhanced creativity and success rates, so business leaders will be constantly looking for new ways to train new recruits and generating ideas that will harness new employees' skills and abilities for the greater good of the business.
And it should also be noted that developing leadership within companies can also have a long-term impact on reducing recruitment costs, because via effective coaching leaders will have the power to install a greater level of motivation with their employees and drive up engagement. Put plainly, developing leadership will retain staff at the company, they will be empowered and motivated by their successful leaders and will have little desire to work elsewhere. Effectively, businesses that invest in a leadership training course that is provided by a strong and reputable training company, could offset the costs against the reduced cost in future recruitment.
And, to complete a neat circle, those employees who are being effectively led by strong and coached leaders, will be the next leaders of the organisation, again saving the company from time and effort in external recruitment drives.
The training expert adds: "Research has shown that of the small number of companies that leapt from 'good' to 'great' and sustained it, the CEOs were mostly bred from inside the company and were not the flamboyant, household names that we normally associate great leadership."
This argues very strongly for effective leadership coaching, as the talent a company has must be retained and provided with opportunities to step up to senior management positions."
